Cape Town Shopping Centre Client: Group Five Property Development Services Value: TBC Duration: Feb 2007 – June 2009 Project Overview Design Development and Construction of a 25,000m2 shopping centre in a previously disadvantaged area in Cape Town. The intention is to bring to this community a middle to up market shopping mall with generous emphasis being on local community involvement, both in delivery of the project and retail ownership operation, but ensuring a substantial presence of national tenants. Profica’s Role Group Five Property Development Services have the mandate to develop this project. The project team, project managed by Profica includes professionals who have assisted with championing this project from conception. Profica are responsible for managing the entire design process as well as the implementation of the project. The project has been received by the retail industry with much interest and enthusiasm. At this point the intention is to open the doors in April 2009. Client Benefits/Value Add Although ‘progress’ in the form of shopping malls is seen as inevitable, this project is unusual in that it is attempting to integrate as much of the local community in building, participating and ownership as possible thereby limiting the traditionally negative economic and social impact associated with shopping malls. It attempts to integrate this western type facility into it’s environment in a way that is inclusive and non prescriptive and to the advantage of those around it, whilst still being a viable economic venture. Profica brings its specific retail knowledge and experience to this project. |
